The New York Women's Foundation is accepting applications for its second grant cycle of 2008.
The foundation funds organizations and programs within the five boroughs of New York City that have developed strategies to move low-income women and girls toward long-term economic security.
While the foundation supports direct service programs, it has a strong interest in community organizing and advocacy strategies in order to bring about meaningful and sustainable institutional change.
The foundation welcomes proposals from organizations and/or programs that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or have a fiscal sponsor that is; are located within and serve the five boroughs of New York City; have been in existence for at least six months; are working toward gender, racial, economic, and social justice; are designed specifically for low-income women and girls while addressing critical needs of disadvantaged and/or marginalized populations; and emphasize community organizing and/or advocacy strategies in order to create meaningful institutional change in their communities. The Open Meadows Foundation is a grantmaking organization for projects that are led by and benefit women and girls. Open Meadows funds projects that do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age,
or ability.
The foundation offers grants of up to $2,000 each to projects that are designed and implemented by women and girls; reflect the diversity of the community served by the project; promote community power, as well as racial, social, economic, and environmental justice; and have limited access to financial resources or have encountered obstacles in their search for funding. Organizational budgets should not exceed $150,000.
Small and start-up organizations are strongly encouraged to apply. Proposals from organizations not previously funded will be given priority. Deadline: August 15, 2008
