Obligatory MJac & Child Stars Commentary

Fame can be hard to handle at any age but it always seems as though child stars fare the worst or perhaps they are the easiest targets...  I found this piece in the LA Times interesting but...while Michael's descent into Bizarro land certainly had its roots in a childhood lost, what about Kurt Cobain or Elvis Presley or any of the half dozen or so comedians and musicians that self-imploded after getting too close to the blazing white hot cross-hairs of stardom?  They weren't child stars.I think it's safe to say that anyone, man, woman or child (I'm thinking Lassie may have been stressed out too, but can't say with certainty) who reaches that level of fame will stumble. Especially in the age of 24/7 media outlets where every misstep is captured and instantly transmitted across the world at blazing T1 speeds.  I believe having stable relationships be it parental or otherwise, may make the difference.  Jackson's life and death should be a sobering reality to all parents of of children in the business.  While it's certainly a level of fame that many of our kids will never have to deal with, it's a reminder of what could happen...like that PSA that used to run all the time with the egg in the frying pan.  Instead it would go, this is your child and insert before and after pics of Michael, this is your child as the biggest star on the planet.

Media Training Tips for Your Young Star

Check out Kortney on YBS, she's the spotlight star this month.  It's really cute and yep, I'm biased.  Also, you can listen to an interview with her here on Blog Talk Radio's Stardish. Little media training tips that I've given her are to stop with the "ums," "huhs," and "yeahs."  To repeat the question being asked to give her time to think of an answer and also it helps if they want to do a blurb or an excerpt because it gives the question context.  We also do mock interviews so she gets comfortable answering questions in her own way so she doesn't sound coached.  She's a work-in-progress as evidenced by her confusion with Will Smith and Eddie Murphy.  :) She's having fun with it and that's what counts.
